A lovely day – Stayed home & enjoyed myself. Edith came up after dinner & we
started for a walk, but only got as far as Mary’s, where we sat before the fire & talked – I'm
afraid I did most of the talking – but they got me started on ocean
stories and Mary said again &
again she “Enjoyed it" & the others seemed to, so I s'pose it
was all right – we did walk around a few blocks afterward & then
I came home and made toast for supper &
Papa & Mama & Con & I had
it in the kitchen & then Con&
I puzzled over the western coast – with the atlas – till
Jan 9. Mon
bed time. Snowed all day & I felt quite done up – we are all rather
grippy. Dick
took my picture in the office — awful! Aroix has had the grippe & looks like
a ghost – thought he was going to die, he said. I'm reading
Seton Thompson’s “Wild animals I have known”
a delightful but tragic book – which makes me realize how little I
know about animals & nature about me!
1899.
