But we were hot & dirty at Albany – where they left us – I found the new train much more comfortable – so kept on in a common coach, but spent an hour in the driving car, over a good dinner (I’d only had one sandwich – with the Wilbur’s – at noon) The cause of Hattie Richardson’s troubles appeared when she went on to Syracuse – with a couple of men from the Co. - She had evidently been “fired” – at “a doubtful” (Schenectady) which coincided with the fat girls' remarks – Mrs. Vaughn (?) still kept on - to Rochester – but no words or looks passed between her & the others. I read the Farrendor’s
as long as it was light. Arrived – very dirty – at 9:45 - & Papa met me – Had another supper – with the dear family and almost–grown–up – Zo & Zen. Then a bath and bed – so good to be home. Aug 6. Mon. First day at office – Gilmore gone – Miss Gutman going Saturday – Miss Flack there – Lura’s at noon, with news of Matie Hawley’s new baby. & a chat with NellieEdith up to tea and a call from Con at the office and this evening at home. Today & yesterday very hot
