the boat was late, we had to change 3 or 4 times to get to
Worcester at 8:15 - the last change - at
South Framingham
being a very rapid one – about half a minute. Louise
Penniman, Mary’s
friend, was waiting at the station and took us to 11 Harvard
St. via a very open car and a very steep street – too steep to drive up or down – but we
managed to climb it with the aid of iron railings. Mrs.
Penniman was awaiting us, and we had tea & bread &
butter & berries and then went to bed in a big
South East room – very delightful.
Aug 5. Sun.
Awoke refreshed, but Mary was sick
& did not get up to breakfast. I ate with the family and
“Ned” (Childs?)
and boarders & took a cup of coffee up to Mary. Then, while she got up, took a
walk down to a beautiful park containing “Salisbury Pond” and
the
“Tech” building & some pleasant streets. Then Mary & Miss Penniman
walked me around another way & Miss P. took
me to the skylight to gaze at distant hills. Mary insisted on going to the train with me & we saw
the State Mutual
