o’clock - and there we really left the Great North
Woods — “Land of the Thousand Lakes” behind us in
a comfortable ride to Utica, where we arrived in
time for an hour’s wait – (a walk and some phosphate and a view of
the Dudley House!) before going on at 5:35 on a fast
train, which gave us just time for a nice little goodbye chat before
Trudy left me at
Syracuse – where I saw her meet her cousins

and the baby – and then got a sandwich and a cup of tea — and
changed to the north side of the car – where I could read a
Rochester paper
for 15 minutes and then watch the sunset – a beautiful red one – and
the fading of the light and the twinkling out of lamps and stars –
and moon and after a while the well-known electric
