Sherlock Holmes10/26/99
(also with Claude) the Saturday before) Monday Oct. 23 Claude & I went “to Cook's” in the evening. It was quite good – the English “Hawthorne Sisters” and so on. Saw Harvey, Walter Smith & Jno Dumond in a box - & in the vestibule. Thurs. Oct. 26. Went to Mrs. Hoyt's again to tea – a nice one – all there but Harvey. We talked about Maude Adams – with whom Miss Wilder had been lunch- ing – and lot of other things. It was very jolly and nice and Bohemianesque. Rode down with Miss Scott & Con. Went to a Donation to Supper & then to the theatre with Mary — “Sherlock Holmes” by Gillette – enjoyed it immensely. He has shaved off his moustache & is simply fine - The company, scenery – acting, costuming - Everything good. We quite fell in love with him. The slim, pale, quiet “get there” fellow – with the lovely sensitive hands & gentle ways. Fri. Oct. 27. We are in the midst of getting a new stenographer at the office. Miss Rathjen's to be married Dec. 5th
