& every one else (Expect JG.!)
was late. Had lunch with Edith at
Sibley’s – waded home at five
and spent the evening (or the best part of it) figuring out
Hilliard's exasperating numerical card
trick. Got it well started

A glimpse of sun this morning & more later enough wind in the
night to smooth off the tops of drifts &c &c. I took one
widest–shoveled walk & Claude took
me by a little drift. and I tried the 2 cars down by the freight house.
Everybody shoveling & good natured – a few cars running – when I
got to the corner by the Triangle I found the street full of engines & trucks (how
they got there I can’t see!) and smoke simply pouring
from Dumond – the plumber’s store – in
Dr. Hayward's building - Flack & my former little camera were just starting
out & I was invited to help – soon went kodaking –
“Hundreds” did likewise. Everyone had brought a camera to “take” the
drifts – and took the fire too – it was great fun – The “Commissioner” was meanwhile renting one
of our stores to Dumond. We got up stairs later, but the six
horse
Hayes truck stayed till nearly 11 o’clock.
