July 31. Tues. Almost a warm day – but a cool breeze. Mrs. Webb says a lady who has been here for years says this is the warmest day she ever knew in “'Sconset”. If that’s so, I can stand it, but it was fine for a bath and I got into my bathing suit early & under the awning reading “The Light that Failed”. Mr. Walsay – the curly-bearded friend of Miss Getty (!) came in his bathing suit & talked theatrics with us – and then Philip Getty came down to bid us goodbye – as he went at 11:45. We had a long chat with him. It seemed too bad he had to go. He was enjoying it so much – and certainly was a mighty nice fellow. He compli- mented me on my daring in going out beyond the breakers (!) and I did go out several times this morning - but the waves were not excessively high. It was a delightful bath – Mary didn’t go in today – but Percy Haswell did - & looked lovely.
