Sun July. 23rd
It was brilliant moonlight, coming home.
We had a bite to eat & then went to bed. It was so bright & the
room strange that I did not sleep very well and woke up early, and
we were thro’ breakfast by 8:15 & after that
Gilmore hustled around & got
Dr. Zimmer’s horse harnessed & the Dr.
up & Mr. Statt (who was to be a fellow
passenger) started, and after numerous vicissitudes we started for the
junction – the Dr.
driving. Mr. S.
told thrilling stories of being in the Texas
flood (July 4) getting run away
with coming out, &c. &c. At the junction we “flagged” the train
but it was not necessary. Mr. Stall
found his brothers had come up to spend the day with him, & had
to go back! and at last I was on my way & my heart was relieved
when I found “Diana” safe and sound. Got
home at 11 & took a bath, and we had a family reunion for
Papa came last night, Claude Friday night & Con was here to dinner too.
Claude told about sleeping in the haunted
house at Malden & we were otherwise quite
jolly. I made some prints. Con
