We went to the Prospect House and sat in the enormous office – all deer head and bear-head and photographs & maps &c. and waited while the bellboy tried to find the Colvers - but didn’t succeed. We sat on the piazza awhile and explored the grounds – picking wild strawberries. And finally came away – this time by road until we reached the private road to “Paul’s” (which is beautiful) which we took to the wo patch up the hill. Of course we “swapped experiences” at supper. The fishermen didn’t get any lake trout, but the young men did get to the top of the mountain, tho' they lost the trail. We visited on the piazza after supper, and watched the stage come in thro' Mrs. Estwick’s glasses. I got a forwarded letter from Mama. July 11. Tuesday Another lovely morning – the lake as still as glass. The fishermen started after brook trout this time – with an elegant horse they had to buy Monday, because the couldn't
