Wednesday morning J.G. and “George
” and J.W. all went to New York and I went down to the office, but the damp air set me a–coughing so that I brought some work home in the afternoon. When I finished it commenced reading “Cardigan which Matie Hawley sent me for Xmas. It’s the kind you sit up till 12:30 to finish. I did

Friday night any way.
11th
Yesterday afternoon I took “off” and went to the matinee up in the “Post” to see Elise de Wolfe in The Way of the World”. Mabel and May Rogers were there and found me a place beside them and we had quite a jolly afternoon. The play was by Clyde Fitch, and very clever of course. Automobiles and live babies and puppy–dogs and gorgeous gowns and “real society” manners and fireworks and all that. Clara Bloodgood was in it, in a part something like hers in the Climbers” and of course very good indeed. The whole company were good.
