Managed a bath and a clean shirtwaist before supper and after supper Trudy & I walked down the road way past the soda-water place – where we met Mr. Merwin & he took us in with the mail and drove us back. I had letters from Edith and Mama. Had quite a jolly chat with Mrs. Reynolds - had just finished supper (at 8 o’clock) and then spent the evening in the middle parlor – while Miss Dike told fortunes with an astrology book - and read palms – and I told them with cards. My astrology character was horrid but the palm–one very good - She says I have a keen sense of humor and am very artistic and we gave each other fearful digs – I happened (with a little guessing and inferring) to hit her fortunes pretty truly. She’s right jolly. The three girls from the cottage were there & part of the time Miss Challis & we actually staid up till 11 o’clock. July 16. Sun. It rained hard in the night and was rather a dubious morning, so that we didn’t go to church, as invited. Had quite a chat with
