Clara Bloodford – who is fine. It is
full of slang and surprises – very “Clyde Fitchy” – the
curtain goes up just after a funeral! & the mourners come back
in their crape. Then there is a man’s confession of fraud – in total
darkness- a summer–garden in winter, in snow storm a dinner party, a
Christmas tree etc. etc. – and all full of sparkling conversation
and lovely costumes. We liked it. I gave my card to an usher to give
to Mrs. D.

Saturday morning it was rather cold. We finished up our shopping
and looking (bought “turnovers” up and down 23rd St &
Broadway) and then we went down to the Cunard
dock, where I showed Mary
thro’ an ocean steamer – the “Umbria.” She tho’t it was “awful” – we
watched the farewells and flowers and stewards and general
commotion – excitement of some and calmness of others – and then went
out on the end of the pier – in the “bald
