1900.
July 26. Thurs. Showery today – Mary & I were on the beach in the morning and got changed under Mrs. Crocker’s tent once or twice. I read “Red Pottage” and watched the big breakers (which kept chasing us) and the McDavitt baby “Billy” in her funny overall costume. Afterward we had a magnificent bath – down by the tent. The breakers were so large we didn’t go in far, but staid in a long time – ever so many got “boiled” in the surf – Miss “Kitty” Getty among the number - after dinner – tho’ it still threatened We had “Lady” around and drove to “town” all but a mile and a half is a fine state road straight across the moor – but that mile and a half – oh me oh my! – It’s terrible especially, coming home – in the pouring rain! We didn’t get any rain till we got to town & drove up around the old windmill – then it poured we went down thro’ the village streets saw the soldiers' monument and some fine old Colonial mansions did some shopping, bought soda water
