Got to Clayton at 4:40, where we bade goodbye to Mary – going to the Park – and at quarter of six took the “Valeria” – which had broken down once this afternoon and got over to Gananoque - in a pouring shower - at about seven. There was no one there to meet us - & evidently “Herbie
” was not coming so we finally went up to the “Inter– national” and after some other complications got supper and a lodging in a house nearby – (the parlor bed– room) as the town is very full on account of the canoe meet. Afterward they put cots in the parlor and refused people after that! Aug 20. Tues. It was still cloudy in the morning We had breakfast and saw the sights (!) of Gananoque – of which Herbie
” was the most welcome. While waiting for him on the dock we saw the “Wanderer” come in and Mr. Lansing Wetmore of Rochester intro– duced himself & then introduced some others – Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Barnum of RochesterMrs. Anderson of Texas (Houston) & Mrs.
