Got to Clayton at 4:40, where we bade goodbye
to Mary – going to the Park – and
at quarter of six took the “Valeria” – which had broken down once this
afternoon and got over to Gananoque - in a
pouring shower - at about seven. There was
no one there to meet us - & evidently “Herbie
” was not coming
so we finally went up to the “Inter– national” and
after some other complications got supper and a lodging in a house
nearby – (the parlor bed– room) as the town is very full on account
of the canoe meet. Afterward they put cots in the parlor and refused
people after that!

It was still cloudy in the morning We had breakfast and saw the
sights (!) of Gananoque – of which
