The parlors were rather hot – He is a very good ventriloquist, too.
We walked home with Kitty Getty - it was a most
beauteous starlight night and a young (very young) moon
Mary & I sauntered, arm in arm.
Aug. 1. Wed
Really quite hot – but a cool breeze & a foggy doubtful morning.
As we were sitting on the piazza after breakfast discussing a
fishing expedition, Mrs. Wagner said she and her
daughter were going to have Scott drive there to
Wauwinet and if I’d drive she would be pleased
to have us both go, instead of Scott (the colored “porter”)
Of course we accepted and started about quarter of ten. The moors
were still beautiful - tho’ the road was dustier than before - and
we caught up with and passed the
McDavitt’s – who were on a picnic with
Mr. Hatt & Tom
& the Aunties and who stopped on the way to pick the big
black berries growing all along. – Mary
got panic–y about the horse flies before we got there. They only
attacked Lady thro’ the low places after we left the main road. We
had a walk on the beach and on the ocean beach
