After dinner and the mail, Mary
& I went down near the breakers – on my rug – and spent the
afternoon – most of it. Mr. Brown was near us -
reposing serenely till a big wave under–washed him “to the delight
of all present”, when he hopped up & condoled with us - &
retreated to the rear when we left. We went up to the house and
dressed and down the bluff to call on Mrs. Webb -
but she was dressing, so we only left our farewells and went
to Warings (saw Mrs. Gilbert
twice) Mrs. W.
served cake & milk and we were invited to a fudge
party this evening – (but didn’t go). After supper went out to see
the sunset and found a horse shoe. Spent much of the evening (after
Kitty Getty went – she came up) on the piazza in the
moonlight talking to Mr. Welsh and Mrs.
Wagner & then we three walked down by the
casino and heard them practicing for tomorrow night
(something about “where does the
