were obliged to bump over the trunk. after supper I sat along time talking to Miss Challis and the Estwick’s – till mail came (letters from Con and the office) and then went inside to read it and found Miss Dike disconsolate on the sofa because the fortune I told her “hadn’t come true!” I promised her a letter from her lover, I believe - and the more I have hints of this and that the more fun I have with her about it. I defied her to let me read her palm - which I did to her amazement(!) and she because much more interested in this “Taurus” animal. She wanted some one to paint my picture for her. “The lines were so good – and the forehead – and the way I wore my hair!” – Of course she was winning but we were in a gale of repartee all the evening – till eleven or so. Meanwhile I told “Willie
's” fortune (he had none – nor no lines on his hand — death?) and Miss Weisker’s and Trudy’s and people came and said goodnight and goodbye and how sorry they were we were going and all – Miss Dike gave me her address and wants me to come & see her
