Miss Dike, until she drove to church with the “steed” by Mr. Pettis' invitation. Then lay in the hammock all the morning reading “Harry Richmond” and talking to Trudy in the 'vex tone'

reading “Indian Tales”. When church was over Miss Dike came out and talked to me till the dinner bell rang. She is very much interested because I am a “Taurus” individual and I am much interested in her and find she is a mental scientist. It seemed not muggy in the afternoon. Trudy and I walked down to the little church of the Trans- figuration to vespers – “Bob” the dog was there too! And the red whiskered man was priest–in-charge. After supper had an evening's visit with Miss Dike, and quite a chat on the “Lark” &c. with Mrs. Reynolds, and later one on municipal politics with Mr. Reynolds. Just as I was waiting for Trudy to finish a letter before going to bed, I stirred up the embers of the “smudge” and suggested roast potatoe. Trudy said she’d eat it if it was properly roasted, so Herbert
got a potato and he and Will Estwick & Mr. Weiscker made up the fire and kept us up till nearly 11. When it was done
