July 3. Mon.Edith’s birthday – and hot enough!
Mama & I went shopping this
noon & bought her a new hat. We lunched with Edith & Mary at
Sibley’s. At night (5:30) stood down by
Smith–Perkins & listened to the
Toronto band playing “Yankee Doodle” etc.
Harvey came by & remarked “Great day
for Iceland!” In the evening I rode out to the park with Con & we had a long talk (and some root
beer)
July 4 Tues.
Didn’t sleep much. The air was so full of the fourth – but none of
it on this street, with dear Mrs.
Behn lying dead. This morning I rode down town (by way of
Mary’s) with
Edith and saw Frank Davis & Geo.
Humphrey & some “visiting soldiers”. The afternoon was
spent in the
Cutler Building – mostly the new part-
watching the parade. The big Brad– street school was
full of the office & their friends & it took the whole
afternoon. I took pictures for the office in general & Mr. Gilmore in particular. Afterward
Mary, Edith
and I walked way down to Edith‘s
(thro’ the crowd!) and had lemonade and rested
1899.
