July 29, Sun.
A very beautiful, cool day. Didn’t feel first rate after my tiresome
jaunts lately - so didn’t go in this morning – but sat on the beach
with Miss Getty & Miss Waring
and others and watched those who did. A big crowd here at dinner. We
went to the beach again in the afternoon & sat on a how my rug - first Mary & I and a box of candy “George
” sent her &
then Miss Fichtner, Miss Shelton
& the
Wagners and for a little while Red
&
Mrs. Smith – who go home in the morning - a “right
cute” couple they are too. I sat up till I finished “Red
Pottage” and then went directly to bed. Got

up in time to see a magnificent sun- rise at 4:30 - & then went
to sleep again. Still feeling rather ill, tho’ I got up to breakfast
this morning - which I didn’t do yesterday – another short lovely
morning on the beach. I didn’t go in but nearly everyone else did.
Laura Wagner came & sat by me. I like her
very much. After dinner I lay a long time in the hammock reading
