us things and then we went down to the beach. Some of the time we
talked to Miss Getty and Miss
Waring
– or let them talk to us – They are clever, amusing girls — and some
of the time I was down close to the shore with my rug and my
Kipling
and the beautiful blue and green breakers and the white cloudlets
and nothing between me and dear old England.
It was fine.
Mary and I had another walk – to
the postal card woman’s – after supper – and then with others to the
“Gift Shop” and up the south bluff a long way, and back to see the
train come in and finally back to the hotel to “sit up” and read
till the mail comes – about 9. It’s almost too damp to stay out of
doors with comfort at night and almost everybody goes to bed and to sleep.
In fact, Mr. Getty tells me he was locked out
of the hotel at 10:30 and
Miss Waring once at 10:15!.
July 24 Tues.
Wonderful to relate, it was raining when we got up this morning —
and a thunder
