Edith came up to tea with me & I took her to see the Baker Stock Company in “The Planter’s Wife” – very dramatic good in parts, tiresome in parts & un- intentionally funny in parts – I’ve been several times lately, with Cad, Papa &

Claude. Last Sunday, Edith and I started at ten o’clock in the morn- ing – against a head wind - & rode our wheels to No. Chili. 11 5/8 miles & then walked a while further (with Ruth
”, the bride) to the Nurseplace where we lay in hammocks – had dinner and went to the woods for violets and enjoyed the sweet breezy air. The woods were full of wild flowers – and Ruth
so pretty among them – I didn’t succeed in getting the picture of her which I wanted. They were very cordial & invited us again. The three big cats – gray, white & yellow figured in the incident. We didn’t start back till nearly six, but the wind was with us and we sailed home – with a few funny encounters with people
