Washington's Birthday was a horrible day. Poured nearly all day & was consequently nice indoors. Mama went to Mrs. Davis’s to an afternoon tea and Mary came up and brought her work and spent most of the afternoon with me be- side my new fire place.

I didn’t mention that Tuesday she & Nellie & I went down to Edith’s and played Pedro all the evening. Friday Con & I went up to Stull’s in the
