tired when I got home - but nevertheless en- joyed our huge
Christmas pudding on the dining table. Con was here & had boxes from his
sister, which he opened and found things for us, too. It took nearly
all the evening – I got around sixty (odd) things and seventeen books
among them – Jno. &
Mae gave Claude a lovely Turkish rug &c. &c. Con staid till he had to go to midnight
service, with the Elwoods.
Sunday (25)
Christmas day, I basted turkey &c. in the morning.
Con was up to dinner and
Mary & Edith were up, just before it. I went
down to see the Mac Arthur’s
things in the afternoon (Mary's
"Little Minister.") and then we all went to church at our
church. Con was here to supper, too,
a bit homesick for Portland, I imagine.
Monday (26th) a holiday
– spent luxuriously at home. I wrote letters (eight of them) all
morning, and lounged in my wrapper reading & semi-sleeping &c. all
the afternoon. Dressed before supper in the evening went with
Con to the new Baker Theatre
opening night - to see “The Highwayman“ – very good.
The Theatre is quite pretty but
the stage seems shallow – compared with the Lyceum
