crowd - the music - the Princess on the balcony - and all made it a scene never to be forgotten. We left just as they set of the "set pieces" - circus of Spain & Us & Eulalia's picture. & managed to get a train home before the crowd. June 9. Friday. Ned, Will, Claude & I were fortunate enough to get the nine o'clock boat over this lovely morning, and a beautiful trip it was. The loquacious captain told us all about last night's fireworks as viewed from the lake. We entered the Park at the extreme north and (the pier is just beyond the unfinished Spectatorium) and we stepped into the R.I. and Maryland Buildings & the nice N.J. also the Florida fort, with its cacti. There we had a glass of orange cider. In N.Y. a woman was playing "the latest operas" on the gilt piano and we rested a long time - after Charella & Edward came. Went thro' the Fisherie's and Government to the Liberal Arts, and there lost Ned & Will. Went to the Century, Harpers & Scribners exhibits and saw some very interesting original drawings & manuscripts. Mrs. Burnett's "Little Lord Fauntleroy", Miss Alcott's "Under the Lilacs" &c. &c. - all very nice - also ideal
