Then came a mob of bare footed donkey drivers Atkinson & Edward had a ride on donkey-back while one fellow told us about the merits of "Yank- Doodle" - a little sleepy-eyed gray donkey - all dressed up in beads. After them were the camel drivers even more picturesque - in turbans and robes & the Americans made sights of themselves hoping to ride beasts. We went strolling down the street and came to a magician's tent with the sleepiest band - an old drummer dressed in old blue & drumming away in his sleep apparently & a fifer (?) ditto- most picturesquely grouped as a background to one of the most animated natives trying to win sheckels for the conjurer by persuasion. A handsome fellow - with white white teeth & black skin & a little sword & lots of words & looks. We watched him a long time. Also a handsome Egyptian woman at the door of the "Temple" & then
