I read aloud to the folks again - from Harper's - by the fire. Dec. 3. Sunday. Snowed steadily this p. all day and almost a blizzard this p.m. In the morning entertained Dem with photos etc. and "visited". Then wrote to Trudy & Frederica & before I'd left the dinner table, Edith came - like a snow bird - to say that Ned was going back tonight and wanted me to come down. I did in about an hour - all bundled up. We "spooned" awhile by the fire. Ned said she'd have gone this morning, only couldn't without seeing me. Expected to - at Mae's - last night etc. Told me - for a secret - that Mr. G. wanted her to come back the middle of January. He gave her $10 extra & she bought a little pearl pin for Frederica & a topaz ring for herself (which she offered me) Begged me to come down. Edith was kind-a teary while Ned went over to see the Crosses - but braced up and didn't even cry at the Station. We had
