What a dear man he is! I ought to be writing to him now. I wrote to my sweetheart and to Rica before dinner and then went to church with Papa & Mama. Stayed to prayer meeting - with Louise who exclaimed in her irrelevant manner "What a swell hat you've got - and awfully be- coming!" and then began to talk in a more "Sunday" strain. Came home & read Harper's before supper & since have been writing. Oct. 2. Monday Rather busy for this season. A beautiful day and I took a walk with "Klem" to- night and was almost late to supper. Sewed and tried to trim a hat in the evening. While Papa read aloud "The Heir of the McHulishes" by Bret Harte & Mrs. Van Rennselear's article on Frederic Law Olmstead.

Oct. 3. Sunday. A perfectly magnificent day. Shopped a little at noon. Claude went to a "Specialty" show last night & has been "juggling" &c - all day. Edith came up to the office and after supper she
