and spent the evening at home. Reading &c. Dec. 6. Wed. Very uneventful day. Have things changed around again at office. Got a letter from Ned - she is busy with Xmas shopping. Read by the fire this evening "need magazines" Dec. 7. Thurs. Went down to Edith's tonight to tea was late on acc't of JG.) Met her cousin "Mrs. Eaton" there. Quite interesting. Her husband is on the staff of the governor of Michigan & she told me some of her experiences at the Fair & elsewhere. We went to the "Opera". Ida was in & Anna White. Clark Southard rode up in the car with us looking as hand- some as I ever saw him look. He was too sick with a cold to be with. Harry & Ida's sister were in the car too - & we saw Kirkpatrick & Mrs. Robins. The curtain (cotton flannel) caught fire just before the thing began and 3/4 of the fuzz burnt off. Everybody acted sensibly & it was put out. The Opera was quite good for Amateurs but Princess Ila & Eric were both absurd I thought. It was late before I reached home - quite tired out. Some of the music was real pretty.
