Gilly' - he looks pale enough. I do hope he'll enjoy every minute. Ned dragged me off soon after five and I went & helped her select a $20 Scotch brown mixed blazer (or "jacket) suit. It's swell- if it fits her - Miss Extravagance. She showed me the sample for her dress for Mae's wedding but I didn't like it so very much - yet. Read & wrote all evening. "White Birchs"
is a refreshing sort of story - not wonderful but not commonplace It has an atmosphere & I'm enjoy- ing it. Stayed up absurdly late. May 18. Thursday Another rainy day (till late afternoon) Ned came in at noon to say that she wanted me to wait for her tonight at 5:30 or so (J.W. was still there) we went over to Charlotte Davis' office to take Frank a ticket of the "show" & then rode down to Edith's to tea. Mae & Dorothy
stopped a min- ute & after supper Mae & Hat S. came down to say they weren't going to the play (Mae was sick - looked awfully pale) & she brought her present for
