this game" & "couldn't see the fun in it" &c. They beat two games out of 3 however, but they were good ones & I was entertained. Mrs. M. Mr. & Mrs. W.
were passive & good natured - Mr. M. was hilarious - a typical lover of card playing games - & Miss B. sulky. It was nine when we got there & 11 when Mate & Frank went home - in a pouring rain & a heavy wind. Aug. 29. Tuesday. In spite of being very tired - & lame more or less from swimming (or trying to), the pouring rain and the wind among the trees & the lake gradually lashing into a fury kept me restless all night. & long before morning I had my doubts about our getting off at noon as proposed. We got up at eight or so and found the lake green & ugly & covered with white caps. The wind could not reach us badly but branches were off & every little gorge was running white with a torrent.
