& a heavy wind.

In spite of being very tired - & lame more or less from swimming
(or trying to), the pouring rain and the wind among the trees &
the lake gradually lashing into a fury kept me restless all night.
& long before morning I had my doubts about our getting off at
noon as proposed. We got up at eight or so and found the lake
green & ugly & covered with white caps. The wind could not
reach us badly but branches were off & every little gorge was
running white with a torrent.
