bags checked and when we got back Charella & Edward were there - and Hannah and Frank - with his curls cut off! Mama & the girls got on the trains with us, and we had the car "New Mexico" all to ourselves (with Miss Milliman, who traveled with us) to Buffalo. Ned brought me a nice little good-bye letter from Frederica. We met Mr. Tappan at Buffalo. & lots of people got in and we got our berths assigned and ate lunch after that. Edith had brought a big box full of black chocolate cake for us and the porter put up a table. I read the book Freddy lent me all the p.m. There were showers &c. Quite a pretty country. At Cleveland we got out and took a walk and had some milk to drink &c. A queer town - all hills and. bridges. We "visited" the rest of the evening I think Miss M.
 is real nice. We talked about Kennebunk &c. Ned was going to taste some medicine and drank the hair tonic by mistake! - only a taste however We stood out on the back platform in the dark awhile. Then went to bed. Ned in upper berth and I'm lower.
