we saw them washing out Diamond dirt & cutting diamonds (Tiffany exhibit) and all guarded by big half-naked Africans - like the Dahomies - only worse. It was all behind plate glass. Listened to the bands in the bandstands awhile, and then went over to Baker's Cocoa place and had 2 cups of cocoa each - served by "La bonne chocolatiere". Walked thro' the Peristyle & Agricultural (where Will fell dead in love with some Havana cigars) and met Ned up by the Administration. Went back to the Casino to dinner - which was quite swell - a French waiter. Them sat on the steps of the Agricultural Landing a long time. It was beauti- ful - about sundown - till 8, when we met Guy & Claude at the Administration. The interior of this at night is pretty fine - Palms & yellow light & color & motion & vastness! Claude took me right back to the Agricultural, where Edward , & Charella were & the crowds were not so thick & we saw the finest display of fireworks I ever witnessed. They would searchlight on the smoke from the rockets - had magnificent bombs - boquets - jewels &c &c. of fire & the whole lagoon ablaze with colored lights & snakish wheels - the
