After a lunch at the Vienna Bakery
(outside) & listening to the Hungarian Band, we went down to
Cairo Street
and the old Arab told Ned's fortune.
Her lucky number 11, unlucky 10 - &c.&c. and the
consequences following both. A crowd looked on & many made
remarks that I heard - about her. Afterward we watched the donkey &
camel men - & then old beggars singing & dancing &
slapping each others faces - also a handsome Egyptian dancing before
the temple. Then, as
Claude was going to Jero's to
supper & Ned to "Ali
Baba" with Guy, I went
home with her and wrote & read when she had gone. Bed reasonably
early.
June 15 Thursday
A lovely morning. Saw about checks &c. and didn't get started
till 9:30 - leaving
Ned, who was coming over later and then
going to town. Claude & I took the
boat. It was roughish- but nice. Met
Charella & Edw. at N.Y. Bldg. & went
upstairs to see the Banqueting Hall
again and the relics in one room - the Van Rensealear cannon (fired
at birth & death of members of the family.
