Of course we saw the Princess - a good looking blonde, most animated and gay - dressed in gray and big red roses - her hus- band, handsome, dark, blasé, with pointed beard. Mayor Harrison (in his first silk hat, Lew Jones says.) and Mrs. Potter Palmer, gray haired and conspicuous. The Dahomies, opposite, set up a howling song & bowed to the earth, the Chinese played their pandemonium band in our ears and the Old Vienna let go their cannon & everybody cheered & waved their handkerchiefs. Afterward we had our lunch at the Nenna Cafe, where we met the Hamiltons & Tom Browns Left Ned to go to the Art Gallery and Will and I came up thro' the Transportation - and went all thro' the Machinery, where we saw looms working - cloth - brocades - ribbons, badges &c and clothes cut by machinery - potter's wheel - cigar making - grinding lenses - the big switch-board - the 3000 horse power engine - the rows of boilers, the immense travelling crane. etc. etc. Then went over to the mining - where
