Lay awake half the night - partly coffee - and partly "my old woes" Sept. 19. Tuesday. Lovely. J.W. is in New York so I'm rather busy. Went with Mama at noon and bought a carpet for my room. Real pretty I think - shades of blue & brown chrysanthemums or pond litties on an ecru ground! Had a nice little lunch at Sibley's - where we saw Mrs. Brod & Mrs. Gallagher & daughter. Read in the evening - and sewed. Sept 20. Wed. Lovely. Cad came up this noon after lunch & I had quite a little chat with her - she has just returned from the Fair. Walked down part way with her. Had a chat with Will this noon and suggested he should go to Paris instead of N.Y. on which he almost went wild - finding he could do it quite as economically - &c. &c. It was great fun. Saw Ned a few minutes this noon & went down there tonight, but they'd gone to prayer meeting.
