Mr. Allen came in for her and I met
him for the first time. Atkinson was
there to dinner. Charella & I talked
after we got to bed. It rained this eve.
Nov. 2. Thurs.
Got down to the office betimes and
Papa got home last night. He came up
and told me about how
Mr. Hillman found a telegram that
his father was dead. Poor fellow. I'm so sorry for him! Claude
came up later. At noon I walk- ed home with Papa and rode back. We went to Sibley's and had lunch (lobster patties)
At night I rode up to Charella's with
her and Claude & Mr. Hillman came to dinner. (It was to
be quite "swell" but Charella sent word
to the rest not to come on acct of Mr. H.
) We had a very elegant dinner and a very pleasant time.
Poor Mr. H. was fairly pathetic
at times. He does love his Father's memory. Frank sang & later Charella did - a long time - everything from "The
Garden of Sleep" to "Isabella! - The Dandy Queen of
Spain" (from "1492") They went home
1893.
