Clinton by the Merchants of N.Y. on completion of the Erie Canal. They were pretty rank in design. One had a scene representing the Rochester aqueduct. Lilla cornered me in the pottery room and found out all she could about Ned and let me know what kind of a letter she wrote her (the little goose!) I was so tired out that I sat down an hour and watched people especially some pretty but profound Art student girls - with violets &c. Ned & Lilla were very much taken with a decorative painting of "Love driving the world". &c. Lilla got off a good deal of "Art talk" but I happened to be rather sick of "values" & such things just then We left at 5 p.m. To meet Beach at 5:15 at the 14th St Station. It poured by that time! Left Lilla starting across 14th St. and took the car way across to Lucchesi's The hand- some little Italian - way over on the "East Side" - who makes casts. He was quite fascinating and
