I was charmed and we walk stupendous distances without realizing it - as at the Fair. Coming out we saw a barn blazing over on the road and went over - nothing was left but the frame - all red - and a mass of seething hay burning - a most beautiful sight - tho' not so much so when we learned that two horses & some hens were burned in it! The little wooden house next door was saved only with difficulty - men & boys passing up pails & buckets to more men on the roofs - which smoked & steamed when the water touched them.
