just too late for them to meet, etc.etc. She had also had trouble
about their packing up our baggage & cleaning out our room
to-day - before we gave it up. I finished packing, paid bills got
checks, ate supper, etc. And then we went out and sat by the pier -
and it was beautiful. The illuminated
City against a reddish & a blackish cloud bank
lights on the pier & buildings. The golden-lighted dome of the
Adminis- tration looming up and now and then a
streak of a searchlight gleaming on a tower or a statue or a tree.
Ned had to go back to meet Guy on the hotel piazza but Claude & I watched until the fireworks
were begun, and the rockets & "boquets"
looked most charming from our position - a dream of a city. I almost
hated to leave it. We took (all 4 of us) the 9:07 train to
"Parkside" - then waited for the 3rd loaded
cable car to take us to Grand Crossing ( Guy
left us there at Parkside) and when we
finally got there and
just too late for them to meet, etc.etc. She had also had trouble
