Jane & had quite a talk with them. Met
Claude during the p.m. (in the
French & U.S. part) & we went over on the Island and sat awhile.
It is lovely, also went into Dan'l Boone's &
Davy Crockett's log cabin & felt like the back woods,
with the big fire place with a wood fire - the skins, guns &
other things - the little breeze rustling in thro' the window. Went
over to n
& had some fine cocoa, sitting in an old Dutch caned chair up by
a little window overlooking Lake Michigan.
Walked up to the South end by the Lake
, the beautiful Peristyle, and the Cliff
Dwellers. Home by Electric. After supper went out on the pier
where it was like a summer va- cation. Then walked up the beach
& when we came in I wrote letters while Ned talked to Guy.
June 8. ThursdayWill had invited
us to go for a ride in the wagonettes, so we didn't get up very
early, but were ready by 10, when they were to come, but suddenly
