I read James Whitcomb Riley's "After - whites" and we had a few Scenes from the Scarlet Letter and helped Edith toast bread and make chocolate. Then had supper & Freddy came over, & Mr. Joiner came home & Harry - & Frank Davis came down about our berths. Then Freddy, Harry & Frank went to church & I went up stairs with the girls & tried on my Ned's brown coat - which she has offered to give me and I'm going to borrow, & they packed a satchel & finally Ned & I started - I with Edith's #3 rubbers on! - for it was snow- ing. Wrote &c. After I got home. March 20. Monday. Warmer and pleasanter. A busy day at the office - but I got all caught up as usual, before going. Fussed and sewed both morning and noon and talked to John N. who went to Chicago to-night. Interviewed Mr. Dayton of Worthington Minn. & he left a $900 order. At about 5. Gilmore's father came in & told him his grandmother was dead - and he'd
