July 27 Thursday. Another uneventful day - and evening devoted to reading ("Penelope's English Experiences" and "A Cathedral Courtship") Letters from the girls with nice messages from Mr. Hodges & sorrow be- cause we're not coming for Sunday. July 28. Friday. A note from Gertrude this morning announcing she was coming - and to-night Mama & I met her at the RW&O Station. Then we had a cherry phosphate & a short talk & went to bed. July 29. Saturday Cloudy this morning but gorgeous afterward. Gertrude in bed with a sick headache till the middle of the p.m. Miss Rogers went on her vacation. I read to Gertrude upstairs & when she got up I hemmed a red silk tie and we talked with Mama - by the parlor windows and then out in the hammock. G. felt well enough in the evening - so we went to Bohemian Girl - which was very good - such sweet dreamy music. I really liked Miss Dicken
when she sang "I dreamt, I dwelt in Marble Halls" and Mr. Miller sang "Then you'll remember me" well too.
