1893.
July 2 Sunday Pleasant, but pretty warm. Wore my white dress hat & silk shirt to church. Louise B. walked up with me & invited me up next week. She wanted to go to Belle Cotchfer, so we did & had lemonade & sat on the steps talking. She gave me some sweet peas. Before dinner I sat up in Claude's room & read "My Lady Nicotine" & finished it out in the hammock after dinner - & then read. Kipling - lovely. Stayed a- hammock all day. It got colder toward night & Mama & Papa were out there after supper. Then I came in to write &c & Papa made me some lemonade. July 3. Monday. This is Edith's 25th birthday and I was in- vited to tea. Got her a lovely sword hat pin but found Frederica had given her one too so changed it for a sword stick pin blue enameled. Ned gave her a ring - with a little diamond each side - lovely! ($18.00). We ate cherries and had quite a visit as usual, Ned with her
