up that far enough to see around the corner of the little - watched
a passenger train pass below us & were at the fence corner away
up - trying to decide what next when there appeared Dr. &
Mama from above us - of course they
stopped & we exchanged experiences and then decided to meet later at
the reservoir - we walkers taking the shortcut. We were all
frightened when an engine came around the curve just about as Arbutus & the riders were due there - but
we saw them heading her down just after and breathed again! When we
had climbed fences, scrambled down a bank &c & found a path
it was a lovely one. All a tangle of autumn
foliage, dark red & green oak, bright yellow maples &c.
little light purple asters and green green pine - & still the
lovely peeps of valley between the bushes & ahead of us - we skipped
across lots to the reservoir and reached there sometime before the
others. Then stood - all of us - a long time watching the toiling
horses & men scooping up the oozy mud. Just as we came out
(after looking it all over) we met Fred Austin -
cordial as ever.
