then sat & read for quite a while, getting down to Mary's at just 9.Mary& Edith hailed me with joy and
Mary took me up stairs. The parlor, back
parlor & dining room were crashed & the pianist & violinist
were in the library, where there were sofa, chairs also. A punch
bowl of lemonade in the dining room corner & little sofa in the parlor
corner. When I came down Nellie,
Edith &
Mary were in the dining room, &
Mr. Fisk, Mr.
Mott &
Mr. Severance. Jack Ballagh was in the next room, but he
came in & talked to me & he & Nellie & I had a jolly time in the corner, till the
first waltz - which I didn't dance (nor Edith) but talked to Mr. McLaughlin
I didn't try two-steps nor waltzes - tho' I did
dance the "Casey wd. waltz" &c. with Mr.
Mott & later Jack
Ballagh insisted on teaching me the Trilby two step - &
we danced every strain. It was great fun. I danced everything I knew how
& a few things that I didn't. Besides the 3 McArthur's & Edith & I there were present Mrs.
