Dec. 20 Sunday Didn't go out of the house today. Spent most of it doing up heaps of presents - for the tree, etc. - writing rhymes - an atmosphere of mucilage - ink - tissue paper - ribbon &c pervaded the region of my desk. I also wrote a long letter to cousin Alice. Just before dark Mrs. Jones came. She's to stay two weeks. We had half an hour's cozy chat by the fire. About Baltimore, chicken farms, &c.&c. (Dem, too.) After supper Mary & Emma came up to return my bloomers - which they had for a pattern to make Charlotte some for the tree. Ida's pedro club had a costume-party - like ours - and Bunnell came & took their pictures. Dec. 21. Monday Fine winter's day - snow and all. Everybody shopping. I staid down at noon and dined with Ned & Edith at Harned's. Charella, "Edna" and Maud (Warner) Parker were at the next table. Tonight went to "gym". Rose wasn't there - but Ned &Edith were. Went home with Ned & staid half an hour or so. Theo showed me some presents. Dec. 22. Tuesday Another fine winter's day. Streets full of people and "trade" evidently brisk. Stopped in at G & McC'c to see the girls about the Xmas tree. Saw Mary too &c Ned telephoned me morning and afternoon. Tonight I did up a few more things - strung popcorn & wrote rhymes. Dec. 23 Wednesday Almost a blizzard this morning - 8 inches of snow last night & good sleighing today. The Xmas trees at the 4 corners look very pretty!
