Staid down to lunch again - at Sibley's
and did the last of my shopping - "Artie" for
Gilmore & a French gilt tape measure for
Martha &c. J.G. sent
Emerich
$50 and promised him an increase in salary of $200.00 for '97!
Gilmore is getting enthusiastic & has
jokes and rhymes for hisChristmas tree!
Mrs. Jones was here to supper and we
had a nice little visit afterwards. She went home about 8 and by 1/2
past or so
Papa & I were loaded up with two baskets
and a bundle and started for Davis'. Found all home but Helen and she came later (after "gym") Mrs. Davis took me upstairs to see her
pretty window seat. We had apples (and Nux Vomica!) and "swapped"
jokes and rhymes. Charlotte is lovely and funny. Came home on the 10:10 car -
getting cold.
Dec. 24 Thursday
All the excitement of the day before Christmas! Nice
brisk-crisp winter day - but not sunny. Delivered parcels this noon. Got
back to find Martha going home for
the day & De Amici's "Spain" - a beautiful
edition with a Merry Xmas from J.G.
& J.W.C.! Martha
gave me a pretty yellow college flag - she made herself.
J.G. told me I could go home, but I had
things to do and didn't - till five. After everyone had gone
Gilmore came in with "my present" (we had a
bet & I won it? but it turned out not to be a joke - but $25.00
in gold! Of course I didn't want to take it, in a way, but he had $50
