wheels - Mr. P. did his too and "jollied" the others.
I think he is quite cute "Uncle George" the
Miller children call him. Jeanette was
out there too, & Gurdon.
Alice, Mrs. RMiss B.
and I went "shopping" down to the P.O. and village and about eleven
we all went up to the beach and in bathing. It seemed cold enough at
first, but fine afterwards. We crossed the river and then "rode" the big
breakers
Mrs. Perrin, Mrs.
Day, Miss Bradley, Ruth
,
Alice & I. It was magnificent. I had
several tastes of salt water and we staid in nearly an hour. The
bath houses are very nice and convenient but 3 of us took turns
using one, some were almost late to dinner. I found a sweet letter from
"Chat" awaiting me - quite unexpected,
too. She intended to see me off & couldn't. After dinner we got
on our wheels, Miss Bradley and I and stopped for
Mrs. Day who, with Alice &
Mrs.
Reading, hired a wheel and tried to learn to ride on the beach.
Miss Bradley and I went a mile and a half or
so up the beach - which was like a fine floor. The breakers dashing
in our one side and the dunes against a gray sky on the other - most
delightful in every way until we turned and tried to go back again
against the wind! And that was quite a journey! We met
wheels - Mr. P. did his too and "jollied" the others.
