1896.
Played two 10 minute halves at basketball - Ned & I captains. I got first goal - then she then I. Sat on the ball once - much to the amusement of the assembled company. In the second half I got 3 and she 2 - making score 5 to 3 in my favor. Quite a good game too. Miss Chace threw the ball in Helen 's basket (she was on my side!) Foul! Hurt my other knee & received congratulations. All our hairs were down. Started home with Ned & Rose - over-took Miss Kernine & then Mary & Emma & I talked to them on the corner. Went right to bed. Perspired for the first time in a week! Dec. 18 Fri. Gray day. Head felt better but I not much- coughed so. Shopped & took street cars. Mary came up tonight to borrow my bloomers for a pattern for some for Charlotte - on the tree - & brought me some photographic books to look at. I fussed all the evening. Read & wrote & puttered. Dec. 19. Sat. My cold still makes me miserable. Staid down and shopped again this noon - cool & lovely. Lunched with Ned and Edith. Got the last roll of pictures and the Durand cats - which Ned took - were a failure - much to her disgust. Bought a lovely cloisonet jewel box for Ned at a Jap. auction. At night went up to Rantzinger's to see Willie about some prints & to Sibley's to help Martha pick out a book for "Will Can". She got "Princess Aline". Late to supper. Figured & fussed this evening. Christmas is very much in the air. Made rhymes for the tree
